Boxing Day lunch Solihull

The Limes is the perfect base for your Boxing Day celebrations. There are many great reasons for choosing to eat out on Boxing Day, with many people booking a table at The Limes to have their lunch cooked for them after working so hard to cater for the family the previous day. When you opt to head to The Limes on Boxing Day, you can keep the festive cheer going after the 25th and catch up with friends and family members in a well-facilitated venue that doesn’t require you to lift a finger.

The history of Boxing Day

Boxing Day became an official British holiday in Victorian times. Over recent years, it has become synonymous with shopping and big sports events though remains a time for many people to put their feet up and reflect on the previous day. People have many different opinions on where the name ‘Boxing Day’ came from. Some people say it takes its name from the old practice of opening alms boxes at church and helping the poor. Others think it is named after the way employers used to provide their servants with boxes of gifts the day after Christmas. Although servants were normally required to work on Christmas Day, they were usually given the following day off so they could hold their own celebrations. One thing is for sure – it has nothing to do with the actual sport of boxing, in Britain at least!

A global day to unwind

Not simply observed in Britain, Boxing Day is also acknowledged in countries around the world including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Jamaica and several US states. Boxing Day has been a Bank Holiday in Britain since 1871 and is also the Feast of St. Stephen in the Christian Church.
