Afternoon tea in Solihull
The ritual of enjoying afternoon tea first began in the UK in the early 1940s. One of the purposes of afternoon tea was originally to help people cope with their food cravings, with evening meals then being enjoyed much later than they are today. Afternoon tea typically consists of sandwiches, scones, pastries, cakes and tea itself. Although scones weren’t initially part of the afternoon tea ritual, they were introduced in the 1900s.
The history of afternoon tea
Originally, afternoon tea was taken by ladies who had reached a high social status. When Queen Victoria’s love for afternoon tea became public, the ritual gained more prominence, with sessions quickly becoming known as ‘tea receptions’. These sessions often involved up to 2000 guests. Today, afternoon tea is a valuable chance to catch up with friends and family members and can be used to mark all sorts of occasions, such as birthdays, new arrivals, baby showers and many more.
