Afternoon Tea

The ritual of enjoying afternoon tea first began in the UK in the early 1940s. One of the purposes of afternoon tea was originally to help people cope with their food cravings, with evening meals then being enjoyed much later than they are today. Afternoon tea typically consists of sandwiches, scones, pastries, cakes and tea itself. Although scones weren’t initially part of the afternoon tea ritual, they were introduced in the 1900s.

Originally, afternoon tea was taken by ladies who had reached a high social status. When Queen Victoria’s love for afternoon tea became public, the ritual gained more prominence, with sessions quickly becoming known as ‘tea receptions’. These sessions often involved up to 2000 guests. Today, afternoon tea is a valuable chance to catch up with friends and family members and can be used to mark all sorts of occasions, such as birthdays, new arrivals, baby showers and many more.

The height of hospitality

The Limes County Lodge Hotel is located in Earlswood, on the Solihull-Warwickshire boundary. We put our clients and guests at the heart of all that we do. We have been serving up afternoon tea and much more to our loyal customers for over thirteen years, and we do everything in our power to ensure a magical time is enjoyed by all. More and more customers from miles around are returning to us for afternoon tea, enjoying the elegant surroundings and the simple pleasure that it affords.

New developments at The Limes

Our new Admiral’s restaurant is set up to open in summer 2019. The new restaurant will be the new home of afternoon tea at The Limes, also providing the perfect backdrop for lunchtime and evening meals as well as breakfast. We are also in the process of adding an extra eight bedrooms to our garden view area, and these are due to be completed by July this year, with our standard rooms also being refreshed in the coming months.
